Legal & Literary Translation
Precise. Natural. True to the Author’s Voice.
Wordcraft by Irena Boettcher
About
I’m a former lawyer turned professional translator, with more than twenty-five years of experience working between English and German.
I specialise in legal and literary translation, where precision, responsibility, and sensitivity to language are essential.
My legal background informs the way I approach every project: analysing complex material quickly, working confidently with specialised terminology, and meeting demanding deadlines. These skills are central to my work with contracts, court documents, and other legal texts where accuracy is non-negotiable.
At the same time, I bring strong writing skills and a lifelong engagement with literature to my translations. As a copywriter as well as a translator, I focus on producing texts that read naturally in the target language — preserving tone, register, and voice rather than simply transferring words.
Based in Aberdeen, United Kingdom, I work with agencies, publishers, authors, and businesses across Europe and the US, delivering reliable English–German and German–English translations shaped with care, clarity, and respect for the original text.
